Our Philosophy

Our approach.

Behind each unique item is a person with an idea and the skills to bring that concept to life.

Using traditional skills that have been handed down through generations and fused with contemporary design to create modern objects that merge traditional techniques with present day function and aesthetics.

To give business to the craftspeople we work with and pay them fairly for their work.

Showing the working process creates a link of understanding, continuity and value between the viewer/buyer and the artisan which creates a feeling of being connected to the craftsperson that made the item.

To ensure that all materials used can be continually sourced in an ethical and environmentally friendly way – for example, most of the metal objects created are recycled and cast from old scrap metals.

Our Mission

To create objects that are both functional, aesthetically pleasing and desirable in a way that supports artisans and their traditional crafts.

We are driven by the creative urge to see an idea transformed into something real and by a love of different materials.

Design

Inspiration comes from all directions : old items found in a pile in the bazaar; a documentary about the way people ate in times past, the texture of something, how it looks and feels.

Sometimes you feel instinctively that something just has to be made, or, you are asked to make a specific item.

Sketches are then made and shown to the artisan and redrawn until everything is clear and agreed upon. Then sampling begins, and continues until the object is just right.
